A yummy delicacy at Awful Arthur's Restaurant. |
Visiting Kill Devil Hill was wonderful. Unlike the other stretch of the Outer Banks, Kill Devil Hill is very populated with plenty of storefronts, restaurants, boutique shops, and pubs! The first time I visited Kill Devil Hill, I ran out onto the beach with Cheese It's and fed the seagulls. It was so fun to have all of the seagulls flying around me. They were practically eating out of the palm of my hand! Kill Devil Hill is full of secret nooks and crannies that can provide you with plenty of things to do. One of our required visits is to Awful Arthur's. A lovely fresh fish restaurant that is ocean front in downtown Kill Devil Hill. My husband always gets a large plate of oysters. Sometimes, there is a suprise inside of his oysters...a little orange crab!! The first time we see this we were surprised to say the least, but after further review, we found that these were highly coveted and considered a delicacy. In addition, he always gets a drink called an "Awesome Arthur," I never had the drink myself because I am not a fan of alcohol but my husband and all of our friends swear by it! If you aren't starving when you arrive, I recommend walking to the upstairs bar that looks out over the ocean and have a few appetizers.

My husband at the pier about to go swimming! |
After you have finished your dinner, walk across the street to the pier and walk out. Along the way down you will see so many different catches of fish! At the end of the pier you can often look over and see larger fish swimming below! Stop in at the store and grab some hand dipped hershey's ice cream for your dessert! You can also stop by the Outer Banks Brewing Station and pick up a growler to save for later. The town has more going on than some of the other towns, but as you can expect the beaches are going to be more crowded. That isn't necessarily a bad thing though! Not feeling the beach? Stop by the Wright Brothers National Memorial and learn about our history. Still looking for something different? Drive down to Tuck-a-hoe and visit the Currituck Lighthouse. Made of red brick, it is definitely something different! Whatever you do, wear sunscreen and have a wonderful time!
